The primary campus of the university was first situated in Palkalaiperur, a vast region encompassing more than 1000 acres. However, as time went on, Palkalaiperur’s South Campus and its facilities were donated to the newly established Anna University of Technology. Recently, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Tiruchirappalli, received a new land allocation. The University also maintains a campus in the city’s central district, Khajamalai, which once served as the Autonomous Post-Graduate Centre of the University of Madras in Tiruchirappalli.

There are 16 Schools, 4 Faculties, 37 Departments, and 29 Specialized Research Centers in total at the university. 2564 students and scholars are served by 263 faculty members at the university. There are 151 programmes available through the university’s departments and schools, including 40 PG M.A., M.Sc., and M.Tech. programmes. The aforementioned programs—31 M.Phil., 33 PhD, 19 P.G. Diploma, 11 Diploma, and 10 Certificates—are offered through the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in semesters. There are 457 supporting staff members at the university. 15 UG and 26 PG programmes are being offered by the university through its distance education programme in addition to the regular teaching schedules in the Departments and Schools. Along with the standard programmes, MCA and MBA programmes are also offered on a semester system. All UG and PG programmes are run on a non-semester system. The MCA and MBA programmes offered in this manner are particularly well-liked.
